Emily Lau is a pro-democracy politician and elected member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council known as "The Iron Lady of Hong Kong" for her outspoken advocacy of civil liberties. As a guest on late-night radio in the months before the 1997 handover to China, she warned of Beijing's plans to repeal Hong Kong's civil liberties protections and dissolve its democratically elected legislature.
