Chris Carter (born October 13, 1956) is a television producer and writer best known as the creator of The X-Files, the science fiction series that brought themes of government conspiracy, alien contact, and paranormal investigation into mainstream popular culture. On Art Bell's programs, his creative vision for The X-Files - deeply informed by real UFO lore and conspiracy research - made him a kindred spirit to the late-night audience and a pivotal figure in 1990s cultural history.
