Robert Monroe (1915–1995) was an early consciousness researcher and founder of The Monroe Institute, recognized for his exploration of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and his development of the Hemi-Sync binaural beat audio technology designed to facilitate altered states of consciousness. As a foundational figure in consciousness studies and a voice on Art Bell's programs, his trilogy of books beginning with Journeys Out of the Body mapped uncharted territories of human awareness and inspired generations of explorers.
