Keel (1930–2009) was an influential journalist and Fortean researcher renowned for his investigations into the Mothman sightings of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and his development of the "ultraterrestrial" hypothesis, which proposed non-human intelligences operating beyond conventional understanding. As a legendary figure in paranormal literature, his book The Mothman Prophecies became a cultural landmark and was adapted into a major motion picture in 2002.
