Gordon Cooper (1927–2004) was an early NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force colonel who flew missions aboard Mercury-Atlas 9 and Gemini 5, and became one of the most prominent astronauts to publicly advocate for the reality of UFOs. On Art Bell's programs, he spoke openly about his own alleged UFO encounters during military service and called for serious government investigation into the phenomenon.
