Gordon Cooper (1927–2004) was a pioneering NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force colonel who flew missions aboard Mercury-Atlas 9 and Gemini 5, and became one of the most prominent astronauts to publicly advocate for the reality of UFOs. As a distinguished guest on late-night radio, he spoke openly about his own alleged UFO encounters during military service and called for serious government investigation into the phenomenon.
