David Brin (born October 6, 1950) is a physicist and Hugo and Nebula Award-winning science fiction author recognized for his "Uplift" series and his influential nonfiction writings on transparency, futurism, and the future of civilization. On Art Bell's programs, his scientifically grounded imagination, his explorations of extraterrestrial intelligence, and works such as The Postman brought a rare combination of hard science credentials and visionary storytelling to the program.
