Cleve Backster (1924–2013) was a leading polygraph expert and former CIA interrogation specialist who became known for his controversial experiments demonstrating what he termed "primary perception" - the apparent ability of plants and living cells to respond to human thoughts and emotions. On Art Bell's programs, his decades of biocommunication research, documented in Primary Perception, challenged fundamental assumptions about consciousness and the boundaries of sentient awareness.
