November 9, 1997: Out of Body Experiences - Dr. Bruce Goldberg | Pfisteria, Wind Storms - Linda Moulton Howe
Goldberg follows with a discussion of out-of-body experiences and his book "Peaceful Transition." He describes 13 planes of existence, from the physical earth plane through the astral, causal, mental, etheric, and soul planes, each with characteristic sounds. Goldberg explains the difference between unconscious dying, which perpetuates the karmic cycle, and conscious dying, which can liberate the soul from reincarnation.
Goldberg also discusses dimensional travel through hyperspace, time travelers from the 30th century, and his challenge to Art to verify astral voyaging by describing what Art is wearing during a future broadcast. Art admits his own fear of attempting an out-of-body experience.
Key Moments
Pfiesteria survives a half hour in sulfuric acid: Howe reports that Dr. JoAnn Burkholder at NC State, who discovered Pfiesteria, immersed the dinoflagellate in sulfuric acid for thirty minutes and it still survived - and that no one has been able to kill it with temperature changes, salt, or pesticides.
Pfiesteria spreading via transatlantic ballast water: BBC's Tom Mangold and Warwick professor Jacqueline McGlade describe evidence Pfiesteria is being transported across the Atlantic in ballast water from vessels docking at Wilmington NC, with a confidential report indicating it is now present on the German side of the North Sea - and the U.S. Coast Guard turned down an 80,000 GBP joint US/UK investigation.
Florida coral disease up 276% in one year: Dr. James W. Porter of the University of Georgia reports that of 160 coral monitoring stations in the Florida Keys, sites with disease jumped from 25 in 1996 to 94 in 1997 - a 276% increase - and species exhibiting disease rose 211%, from 9 of 44 to 28 of 44.
Three types of OBE: near-death, classic, and conscious dying: Goldberg lays out his framework: near-death experiences are unconscious dying that don't break the karmic cycle; classic OBEs include the three-hour nightly REM cycle and runner's hypnosis; the third type - conscious dying - keeps the soul connected to the higher self at the moment of death and merges with the white light.
Two astral planes; project from heart, not solar plexus: Goldberg warns that classic techniques teaching projection from the solar plexus drop you into the lower astral plane - where demonics and negative entities hang out. He compares it to a bikers bar on a Friday night and recommends projecting from the heart instead.
